Auditions for "Engaged"

Gilbert's Engaged

February/March 2019

Directed by Diana Burleigh.

The play that inspired Oscar Wilde!

Gilbert's typical topsy turvyness is in full play in this comedy about a young man who keeps falling in love and finds himself engaged to three women simultaneously, and tries to sort out his predicament with so many problems popping up.

A scene between 2 of the ladies is strongly reminiscent of one in Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest, and Engaged's popularity was great in the 19th century and has lingered through the past 100 years with regular revivals.

This will be an intimate production, performed at The Knowe, in Sassifras, Act 1 in the garden and the rest in the living room of this delightful cottage.

There will be 4 afternoon performances on the 23rd and 24th of February, and on 2nd and 3rd March. A Weather Contingency availability of the 9th and 10th March is requested. There may be an additional season in Malvern, in November 2019.
